Nia's Rape

Starring

The film is about a man who enlists the help of his 3 long life friends to murder his wife's rapist."

David's Notes:

I was hired on by a great life long friend myself, Michael Ozias. This would mark our 4th film of working together.

I started with a theme for the movie based upon the rhythm of the syllables when saying "Nia's Rape". I try to take this approach for main themes in all scores that I do. This particular theme you hear mostly when we see the film's protagonist, Nia. I started with the Opening Credits wich is a rarity. I tend to start composing in the middle of the film and go from there. Then, I compose the opening credits to be a sort of montage of the score.

I was going for a suspense yet dramatic feel for this score. I didn't want the music to state what the film is "about", since this ambiguity is one of the film's attractions, but to write these notes I have to pretend that I do in fact know what it's about. We're not sure if Nia (the wife) has made up this lie of being raped to cover up an affair.

It took me about 8 months to complete this score. There were complications with actors making re-shoots of the film, which delayed a lot of the process. Finally though, we got through it and came out with a terrific film & score.
